Welcome!
This Interim Show is a celebration of the work-in-progress of Year 1 and Year 2 students studying on the MA Entrepreneurship for Creative Practice at Plymouth College of Art. It represents outcomes from the first two modules of the programme.
Both cohorts, with their diverse disciplinary backgrounds, have engaged in conversations and experiments within and between different disciplines and perspectives. This has enriched their thinking, practice and research, leading to fresh ideas and modes of expression, some showing strong latent commercial promise.
One of the fascinating features of these cohorts is how they are forging a new lexicon of entrepreneurship terms from within the Creative and Cultural Industries, rather than simply importing ‘business speak’. This promises to begin a process of embedding entrepreneurial thinking into day-to-day practice rather than it being a parallel or dissonant activity.
Viewing this body of artefacts and experiences gives a sense of a quiet and determined interrogation of the potential and inter-connectedness of ‘things’. It is clear that what already exists has been transposed. In doing so the students are also undergoing subtle transitions to new ways of knowing and practicing. There is a desire to understand how real human, socio-economic and/or environmental needs can be met. In an age of ‘wicked problems’ and complex social challenges, meeting real needs, as opposed to ephemeral wants, becomes a pressing concern. Here are a few embryonic steps to create some more meaningful ‘things’ and latent new livelihoods...
